Across our school we focus on learning in, through, and about the arts. By participating in the arts, students’ personal well-being is enhanced. Opportunities for singing, dance and drama are included in classroom programmes. Every two years we have Footsteps Dance Company come and work with all students.
Dancesplash
Our students learn various dance styles that are performed at the Michael Fowler. Dancesplash combines many genres including hip-hop, creative, jazz, cultural and ballet.
Kapa Haka
We have a Senior Kapa Haka Group (Years 3-6) that meet each Tuesday at 1.30pm. The Kapa Haka group are taught by Melanie Wakeham and the children learn a range of waiata, poi, haka and rākau. The children commit to the group for the year and they participate in local Cultural Festivals. The group are also the leaders in our school for pōwhiri (formal welcomes).
