Across all learning we consider mātauranga Māori. It is important to build on our knowledge to understand Māori world views, values and perspectives, Māori creativity, and cultural practices.
Pinehaven School students participate in a weekly programme, Kura Ahurea. Every week, classes work in teams to learn about local historical narratives and Te Reo Māori. Kura Ahurea is a whole of school approach which is supported by local iwi.
Kapa Haka is available for all children from Years 3-6. Our Kapa Haka rōpū lead our termly mihi whakatau, learn waiata, haka & poi as well as representing our kura at the Upper Hutt Cultural Festival.
Pōwhiri/Whakatau
Welcome to Pinehaven School
All manuhiri (visitors) will go through the Pōwhiri/whakatau process at Pinehaven School. The pōwhiri is a welcoming process that removes tapu (restrictions) of the manuhiri to make them one with the tangata whenua.
This process will be developed and grow through regular and consistent welcoming of all new learners at the start of each term. Newly enrolled learners and their families will receive an invitation to join us at our next Pōwhiri.
